About the project
An honest look at the spaces we live in and around
journovibezo.org is an independent documentary photography project based in Canada. We photograph buildings, streets, and forgotten corners of cities and towns, and we speak with the people who live, work, and remember around them.
Why we started
journovibezo.org began as a series of weekend walks through neighbourhoods slated for redevelopment. What started as a personal habit of photographing buildings before they changed turned into an ongoing record of how Canadian cities grow, shrink, and get rebuilt around the people who call them home.
Today, our contributors work across the country, from coastal port towns to prairie grain towns to the dense downtown cores of major cities. Every story starts the same way: with time spent in a place, listening before photographing.
What guides our work
Time on the ground
We spend real time in a neighbourhood before we photograph it, returning across seasons and schedules rather than treating a place as a single visit.
People, not backdrops
The people who live and work around a building or street are part of its story. We talk with them and credit their perspective, not just the structures we photograph.
No agenda, just record
We are not advocating for a particular outcome for any space. Our aim is to document what exists, as it exists, before it changes again.
